Functions of the Directorate of Financial Operations and Debt Management
The Directorate of Financial Operations and Debt Management implements the monetary policy of the Central Bank of Iraq through the use of the three quantitative instruments of monetary policy through the departments of the Directorate (open market, sale and purchase of foreign currency, legal reserve and lending), analysis and evaluation of the creditworthiness of banks and provision of credit facilities to troubled banks (as The Central Bank is The Bank of Banks and the last resort for lending) on three tranches: primary credit, secondary credit, and the loan of last resort. A number of tasks were added, in particular, small and medium projects financing (targeting five main sectors as the Central Bank initiative), And the investment of bank deposits in dinars for short periods in order to manage the liquidity of the banking sector in addition to managing the public debt of the Ministry of Finance.
