In 2018, the Central Bank of Iraq issued a second edition of banknotes of denominations (25,000, 10,000, 1,000, 500, 250) dinars, and the new edition included the updates referred to below.
1- Sustainability of circulation: The currently circulating banknotes of the above denominations continue to circulate with the new denominations without any intention to withdraw them from circulation.
2- The most important changes to the denominations (25,000, 10,000) dinars:
-
The two banknotes above include writing the name of the governor (Ali Mohsen Ismail) instead of his signature in the old edition, in line with what is currently followed in other countries.
-
The Hijri and Gregorian dates have been modified to the dates (1440 AH - 2018 AD).
3- The most important changes for the categories (1000, 500, 250) dinars:
-
The banknotes of the above categories include writing the name of the governor (Ali Mohsen Ismail) instead of his signature in the old version.
-
The Hijri and Gregorian dates have been modified to the dates (1440 AH - 2018 AD).
-
As for the category of (1000) dinars, the face of the banknote has been changed, as the logo of the inclusion of the marshes and antiquities of southern Iraq on the World Heritage List has been placed instead of the image of the Islamic dinar in the old design, based on a decision issued in this regard.
